BAY CITY, Mich.-- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) released the Preseason Coaches' Poll on Thursday (Aug. 29). Defending champions Saginaw Valley State University was selected to win the North Division while Ohio Dominican University was chosen to win the South Division.
In the North Division, Saginaw Valley State received three-first place votes and 43 total votes. Tiffin University was picked to finish behind them with 36 total points and one first-place vote. Northwood University was selected to finish third in the division with 35 points while the University of Findlay was picked to finish fourth.
In the South Division, Ohio Dominican claimed the top spot with two first-place votes and 37 total point. Walsh University was picked second, receiving 24 total points and one first-place vote. Lake Erie College was right behind Walsh with one first-place vote and 21 total points. Malone University rounded out the South Division in fourth.
The Storm return several starters from last year's team. Goalkeepers Filip Ljubevski (Ajax, Ont./Pickering) and Sam Etherton (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) are both back to once again compete for starting spots. Willie Cognee (Terrebonne, Quebec/Amand-Corbeil) returns to anchor the Storm's defense. All-GLIAC Honorable Mention Ryan Gibson (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) returns for his second year at the midfield position along with senior captain Stewart Bath (Billingham, England/Billingham Campus School/Averett University). Randy Danso (Toronto, Canada/Don Mills/North County Community College) returns to the striker position after missing the 2012 season with an injury.
