PAINESVILLE, Ohio-- For the third time this season, the Storm bested the Timberwolves, 1-0, Tuesday (Nov. 5) in the 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) quarterfinals round in a physically demanding game played on the campus of Lake Erie on Slattery Field.
Alfred Majer's (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) scored the lone goal of the contest in the second half.
The teams were at a stalemate in the first half with neither finding a goal. The Timberwolves held the Storm without a shot while garnering six of the own- only one of which was one net.
In the 59th minute, Majer took an errant ball at midfield off a Timberwolves defender and charged down the field and beat Northwood goalkeeper Johannes Sterobo to give the Storm a 1-0 lead. The goal was first scored in regulation in three meetings between the teams this season.
The rest of the half was very physical battle. The Timberwolves outshot the Storm 13-6 but only managed to put two shots on net, which were both saved by Filip Ljubevski (Ajax, Ont./Pikering), who ended the game with three saves, to give the Storm the shutout and advance them to the GLIAC semifinals.
The shutout was Ljubevski's fourth of the season.
The Storm will play their semifinal game Friday (Nov. 8) host school and top seed Ohio Dominican University.
