PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's soccer team defeated second-ranked Saginaw Valley State Friday (October 17th), 2-0. With the win, the Storm improves to 6-4-2 overall and 5-3-2 in the conference and while the Cardinals fall to 10-1-2 overall and 7-1-2 in conference play.
The scoring was opened in the first half when senior forward Alfred Majer (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) won a penalty kick, and junior midfielder Anthony Novak (Toronto, Ont. / St. Mary Catholic) took and finished the penalty kick to give the Storm a 1-0 advantage.
In the second half the Storm widened the margin when senior forward Cory Bucur scored on a breakaway to make the score 2-0 with three minutes to play.
In net for the Storm was junior Filip Ljubevski (Ajax, Ont. / Pikering) who faced 24 total shots-14 of which were on goal- and made 14 saves, and allowed zero goals for his fifth shutout on the season.
Lake Erie College will be back in action Sunday (October 19th) when they host Northwood University at 1 P.M.
