PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The men's soccer team at Lake Erie College will embark on the first road trip of the year this weekend. The Storm will travel to Pennsylvania to face the Rock of Slippery Rock University on Sunday (Sept. 4).
Coach Brenner's Take: "During the course of the last 3 weeks the players have shown tremendous growth as a group, and are playing with a great deal confidence – which showed up in Thursday night's season opening win. Slippery Rock University is a quality team - we know that the game will be a tough road match, but these are the types of games the players really get up for, as well as replicating the type of game we will see in conference play. The staff and players have statically prepared for SRU over the last 3 training sessions and I am excited to see what the players can do against another quality opponent!"
Storm Report: The Storm is 1-0-0 this season so far after a thrilling 2-0 victory over Roberts Wesleyan College on Thursday (Sept. 1) at home. Ben Phillips and Kenneth Kolke both scored goals in the win while Andrew Bucur added two assists in the game.
Preseason Rankings: Following the Storm's run to the GLIAC title game, the Storm were selected to finish fourth in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Saginaw Valley State was chosen as the favorite to win the GLIAC in 2016.
Series History: Since 2009, the Storm and the Rock have faced off twice. In 2013, the game ended in a 0-0 draw and the 2012 match was a 3-0 loss for Lake Erie.
Opposition Position: Slippery Rock opened the 2016 season with a 1-0 loss to Malone University.
Storm Forecast: The Storm will conclude non-conference play for the season and they will open the 2016 GLIAC schedule on Friday (Sept. 9). The first game on the conference features a match with the Tiffin University Dragons at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.
