PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College men's soccer team opened GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) play with a 2-1 loss to Tiffin University on Friday (Sept. 9) at home.
"We were not at our best today, especially in the first half. Tiffin did a good job of making us pay on two set piece goals. I was pleased with the overall effort of the players in the second-half and thought we at least deserved a draw. However Tiffin's GK was up to the task saving a PK. We will regroup and come back stronger on Sunday afternoon against Findlay," said Head Coach Kevin Brenner.
In the eighth minute of the game, Andrew Bucur (Bedford, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) made a free kick work as he fed the ball to Jesse Schluter (Boksee, Germany/Kathe-Kollwitz School) who volleyed the ball into the goal. Schluter's first goal of the year made it 1-0 Lake Erie.
Tiffin answered in the 32nd minute with a header off of a free kick. Matthew Tait knotted the game with his first goal of the year. The game was tied 1-1 at the half.
The Dragons converted a free kick into a goal from Andre Landell in the 51st minute. Landell's third goal of the season completed the scoring at 2-1 Tiffin.
In the goal, Faroux allowed two goals while making two saves.
The Storm will look to rebound on Sunday (Sept. 11) as they host the University of Findlay at 1:00 PM.
