PAINESVILLE, Ohio-The Lake Erie College men's soccer team continues to climb up the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) rankings. In the third week of the rankings released Tuesday (Sept. 20), the Storm has jumped another spot.
Lake Erie is currently ranked sixth in the Midwest Region in Division II. Lake Erie was ranked seventh in last week's rankings.
The Storm completed two 1-0 shutouts last week as they improved to 5-1 on the year. Gabriel Ferreira (Cuiaba, Brazil/Rabun Gap Nacoohee School) scored in the 1-0 win over Ashland. Jesse Schluter (Boksee, Germany/Kathe-Kollwikz School) scored the game-winning goal late on Friday (Sept. 16) against Northern Michigan.
Schluter and Hugo Fauroux (Cannes, France/Lycee Bristol) were named to the GLIAC Honorable Mention list this week for Offense and Defense, respectively. Fauroux shut out both opponents while making eight saves, including a penalty kick save.
Lake Erie will face two NSCAA ranked opponents this weekend at home. Saginaw Valley State is ranked eighth and will face the Storm on Friday (Sept. 23). On Sunday (Sept. 25), Northwood comes to the Britt and they are ranked fifth.
