PAINESVILLE, Ohio- For the fourth straight season, the Lake Erie College men's soccer team is playing in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament. The Storm will travel to Saginaw Valley State University to face the #1 seed Cardinals on Friday (Nov. 4).
Storm Report: The Storm finished the 2016 regular season with an 8-6-4 record overall and a 6-6-4 record in the GLIAC. Lake Erie battled Walsh University to a 0-0 draw in double overtime on Senior Day last weekend.
GLIAC Honorable Mention: For the final week of the regular season, two Storm players were named to the GLIAC Honorable Mention team. Stuart Campbell (Glasgow, Scotland / Glasgow Academy) was named Offensive Honorable Mention after he scored two goals in a 3-2 overtime win against Ohio Dominican. Campbell's second goal was the game-winner. Alfredo Gallo (Lancaster, NY / Lancaster) was named Defensive Honorable Mention as he made five saves and allowed one goal.
Series History: Lake Erie is 3-7-4 overall against Saginaw Valley State since 2009. Saginaw Valley took both matchups against the Storm this season as the Cardinals won 2-1 in overtime in Painesville. In the second matchup, Saginaw Valley defeated the Storm 4-2 on the road. These teams have faced off once in the GLIAC Tournament (2015) when the Storm defeated the Cardinals 3-2 on penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie in double overtime.
Opposition Position: Saginaw Valley State ended the season with a 3-0 win over Northern Michigan. The Cardinals won the GLIAC regular season title with a 14-3-1 overall record and a 12-3-1 GLIAC mark.
Storm Forecast: With a win, the Storm will play for the GLIAC Tournament Championship on Sunday (Nov. 6).
