PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College men's soccer team used four second half goals to defeat the Malone University Pioneers on Saturday (Sept. 30) afternoon at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium. Lake Erie won by a final score of 4-0.
Each team took seven shots in the first half but neither team could find the back of the net.
In the 50th minute, Miguel Espinoza (Perry, Ohio / Perry) scored on a ball from Victor Restrepo as the Storm broke through with the first score. Eleven minutes later, Lake Erie added a second goal from Ezekiel Ebenezer (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) off an assist from Javier Borreguero (Nigran, Spain / Los Sauces School). Joseph Munaretto (Painesville, Ohio / Riverside) made it 3-0 in favor of Lake Erie with a goal in the box off of a deflection in the 73rd minute. Max Maguire (Letchworth, England / Hitchin College) scored the final goal three minutes later with a shot from 22 yards away.
Lake Erie took 11 shots in the second half, finishing with 18 for the game. Maguire led the Storm with four shots.
Tom John (Ahrensburg, Germany / Tennis Borussia Berlin) made seven saves for the Storm in the shutout.
The Storm will travel to Kentucky Wesleyan for a Great Midwest matchup on Thursday (Oct. 5).
