The Lake Erie men’s soccer team has broken into the national rankings at No. 16 in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll released today. It’s the first time the Storm have been ranked in their Division II era.
Ayden Von Essen’s goal in the fourth minute held up throughout the game as Lake Erie defeated Northern Michigan to remain unbeaten on neutral grounds Sunday afternoon. The Storm improved to 5-0 on the season, while the Wildcats fell to 1-3.
Jonathan Carr gave Lake Erie its second overtime win in three games with a goal in the 98th minute to give the Storm a 1-0 victory over Malone on Tuesday afternoon. The Storm (3-0) also garnered their third consecutive shutout in their G-MAC season opener.
The first week of the season was a great one for Lake Erie goalkeeper Tom John as he was announced as the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week. John led the Storm to two clean sheets in regional wins against Ashland and Slippery Rock.
The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) conference coaches and league office unveiled the Men’s Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour on Friday. The Lake Erie College men's soccer team was picked to finish fourth among eleven in the G-MAC for the 2019 season.
After last year’s exciting season that saw Lake Erie advance to the G-MAC Semifinals, the Storm are excited to announce the 2019 schedule. This year’s slate will feature 18 games, 14 of which are in conference, and 14 within the state of Ohio.
