PAINESVILLE, OHIO -- The Lake Erie College men's track and field team will take a national top-20 ranking into this weekend's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Storm moved up three spots to 20th in the Division II team rankings released Tuesday (Feb. 22) by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The move up the rankings followed a strong performance at the Kent State University Tune-Up. Sophomore Chris Burrows (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood Madison) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor National Championships in the 400-meter dash and was part of a 4x400-meter relay team that improved its qualifying time by a full second.
Classmate Isaac Snyder (Salesville, Ohio/Buckeye Trail) tied the school record in the 60-meter hurdles and placed fourth in the 300-meters. Having already qualified provisionally for the NCAA Championships in the heptathlon, he is one of five Storm individuals looking to bolster their national chances this weekend.
Competing at the conference meet for the first time, Lake Erie is one of five GLIAC squads in the region's top six teams. The 2011 GLIAC Championships will be hosted by Saginaw Valley State University Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25-26.
