PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Seven Lake Erie College track and field student-athletes, five men and two women, earned indoor all-region honors for the 2010-11 season. The performance-based honors, awarded by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the first time on Tuesday (Mar 1), recognize individuals ranked in the top five in each event in the region.
Leading the way was sophomore Chris Burrows (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood Madison), who earned All-Midwest Region honors in three events. Burrows, a national qualifier in the 200- and 400-meter dashes, also earned all-region honors in the 60-meter dash.
Four other Storm men earned honors in single events, including three national qualifiers. Freshman Jamil Dudley (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon) in the high jump, sophomore Eric Klucar (Medina, Ohio/Highland) in the pole vault, sophomore Isaac Snyder (Salesville, Ohio/Buckeye Trail) in the heptathlon and sophomore Cameron Whitner (Westerville, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) in the 60-meter dash all received All-Midwest recognition.
Burrows, Dudley, Klucar and Snyder will represent Lake Erie at the NCAA Division II Indoor National Track & Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., March 11-12.
On the women's side, sophomores Andrea Boyd (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford) and Colleen Bednar (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) were All-Midwest Region selections. Boyd did so in the 60-meter hurdles while Bednar was a top-five performer in the long jump.
