WINSTOM-SALEM, N.C. – Sophomore All-American Jamil Dudley (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon) shook off a disappointing fifth-place finish at last week's indoor national meet with a spectacular start to the outdoor season Friday (March 16) on the first day of the Wake Forest Open.

Dudley won the high jump by clearing 7' 4 ½", automatically qualifying him for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships and provisionally qualifying him for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials later this summer.  The 2011 U.S. Junior national champion cleared the 2.25 meter mark on his second attempt to best runner-up Darius Purcell of Appalachian State University (2.22).

His jump was also a stadium record at Wake Forest's Kenter Stadium and is just .03 meters (1.18 inches) away from the US Trial automatic mark.

Dudley wasn't the only jumper with a big day. Freshman Joe Postwaite (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) went 48' 9" (14.86 meters) in the triple jump to set a school record and provisionally qualify him for the national meet.  He also qualified for the 2012 USA Junior Outdoor Championships June 15-17 in Bloomington, Ind.

On the track, junior Greg Gerber (Fremont, Ohio/Clyde)  set a school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, placing eighth with a time of 9:46.91.  Sophomore Nick Green (Wapakoneta, Ohio/Wapakoneta) also set a school record in the shot put with a throw of 46' 11 ¾" (14.32 meters)

For the Storm women, sophomore Taylor Williams (Akron, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) set a school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 132' 1" (40.25 meters), which placed her sixth in the event.  Freshman Ariana Jorgensen (Etobicoke, Ontario/Father Henry Carr Secondary) earned a spot in Saturday's 100-meter hurdles finals, recording a time of 14.90 seconds to qualify second in her heat and 13th overall.

The action continues at Wake Forest for the Storm on Saturday, March 17, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
