BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – Sophomore Joe Postwaite (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) posted the second All-American finish in as many events for the Lake Erie College men's track and field team as he placed fourth overall in the triple jump Saturday (March 9) at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Crossplex in Birmingham.
Postwaite's top jump was 50' 6" (15.39 meters), the third time this season he has cleared the 50-foot mark. He earned All-American honors in his first appearance at the national meet. He fouled on his first and fifth jump, but was over 49' on each of his four qualifying jump.
The Academy of Art's Johnny Carter won the event with a leap of 52' 1 ¾". DeJon Wilkinson of St. Augustine's University was second (51-11), followed by the University of Central Missouri's Meelis Siimson (50-8 ¾") in third.
Postwaite joins teammate Jamil Dudley (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon) as All-Americans this season. Dudley placed second in the high jump Friday night. The pair combined for 13 points and were in 10th place following Postwaite's event.
