OBERLIN, OHIO – Three school records fell for the Lake Erie College women's track and field team Saturday (April 6) at the Bob Kahn Meet hosted by Oberlin College on the Robert Kahn Track at Fred Shults Field.
In the scored team event, the Storm women were fourth of six teams while the men finished third amongst five schools.
All three records went to first-year student-athletes, as freshmen Alicia Arnold (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain), Kady Held (Massillon, Ohio/Tuslaw) and Azia Miller (Lancaster, Ohio/Berne) set new school standards.
Arnold won the 100-meter dash in 12.20 seconds, a time .17 faster than the previous mark set by Andrea Boyd on the same track in 2010.
Held reached 138' 10" in the discus, breaking her own school record and finishing first in the event. Miller took second in the hammer at 141' 06".
Other second-place finishes for the women included sophomore Ariana Jorgensen (Kleinburg, Ont./Emily Carr Secondary) in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.35 seconds), senior Colleen Bednar (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) in the long jump (17' 3 1.4"), freshman Brittany MacRae (Runnemede, N.J./Triton Regional) in the javelin throw (107' 9") and the 4x100-meter relay team (49.79 seconds).
On the men's side, freshman Keith Hemphill (Warrensville Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Central Catholic) won the 100-meter dash (10.95), just ahead of redshirt junior All-American and reigning GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week Ethan Snyder (Salesville, Ohio/Buckeye Trail) (10.98).
Freshman Nick Hall (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) won the 800-meters (1:58.04) while classmate Kurtis Taylor (Holland, Ohio/Springfield) won the 110-meter hurdles (16.24). Redshirt freshman Sean Stone (Newton Falls, Ohio/Southeast) claimed the individual title in the hammer throw (172' 8").
The men's 4x100-meter relay team took first place (43.10) while the 4x400 team took second (3:30.59).
The Storm are in action again next weekend, traveling to Lewisburg, Pa., for the Bucknell University Bison Outdoor Classic April 13-14.
