Silver Friday: LEC goes back for seconds on Friday

GENEVA, Ohio – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships concluded on Friday, and Lake Erie's men's and women's teams placed sixth and 12th, respectively.

For the Storm, the final day of the meet was "Silver Friday" – Lake Erie athletes earned three second-place finishes amid scoring points in numerous events. The LEC men finished the week with 38 points, one more than seventh-place Malone. The Storm women carded 23 points.

Grand Valley State (Mich.) swept the championships. The Lakers scored a 207.5-171 win over Ashland on the men's side and a 185.5-120 win over Ashland on the women's.     

The Storm men scored points in five events on Friday. Ethan Snyder carded a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in with a time of 52.04 seconds. Joe Postwaite took silver in the long jump, launching off with a performance of 7.21 meters (23-08). That performance marked Postwaite's second silver of the meet; he also took second in the triple jump.

Two LEC runners – Shavon Thompson (fifth) and Andre Hussain (eighth) – earned points for Lake Erie in the 100-meter dash. Thompson and Hussain went into the meet ranked eighth and 13th, respectively, on the GLIAC performance list.

Ethan Snyder earned LEC a point with an eighth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. The LEC 4x100 relay placed sixth.

The Lake Erie women a silver and a bronze among three point scorers on Friday. Destiny Prusky earned silver in the high jump, logging a season-best mark of 1.71 meters (5-07.25). She was beaten by a GLIAC-record-mark of 1.75 meters.

Nadia Lee claimed bronze in the triple jump, posting a big 12.10-meter (39-08.50) number which set a new program record and qualifies as an NCAA-II provisional time.

Danielle Martin placed sixth in the 100, with a 12.41-second run.
