GENEVA, Ohio—The Lake Erie College track and field teams had several top finishes Saturday (Feb. 7) at the NCAA Division-II Challenge hosted by SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
The D-II Challenge featured some of the top competition from around the country.
Destiny Prusky (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) won the high jump with a school record and personal best 1.73 meters, increasing her national qualifying mark. Asya Hobbs (Lynwood, Ill./Bishop Noll) took fourth in the event, clearing 1.53 meters.
Nadia Lee (Tucker, Ga./Tucker) took second in the triple jump with a leap of 12.06 meters. She also placed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 5.16 meters. Danielle Corbin (Atlanta, Ga.) took seventh in the long jump with a leap of 5.04 meters.
Hailey Vanhoy took second in the 600 meter dash with a time of 1:45.38. The 4x400 relay team of Vanhoy, Sara Moore (Amherst, Ohio/Amherst), Gina Henley and Ashley Pryce (Stow, Ohio/Stow Munroe Falls) took seventh with a time of 4:13.32. Ariana Jorgensen (Kleinburg, Ont./Emily Carr Seconday) qualified for the finals of the 60 meter dash in second with a time of 8.96 seconds but had a false start in the finals. Pryce took fifth in the event with a time of 9.34 seconds.
Kaitlyn Menges (New Philadelphia, Ohio/New Philadelphia) took second in the weight throw with a toss of 14.96 meters. Menges also placed second in the shot put with a toss of 12.64 meters.
Joe Postwaite (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) won the triple jump with a leap of 15.24 meters. Matthew Mrosko (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe) placed third in the high jump, clearing 1.91 meters. Alex Jolly (Staten Island, N.Y.) took fifth in the long jump with a leap of 6.39 meters.
Keith Hemphill (Warrensville Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Central Catholic) took second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.10. Jordan Sensabaugh took sixth in the event with a time of 49.52. Sensabaugh placed second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.46. The Storm had a strong showing the 200 meter dash, with Andre Husain Jr. (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Holy Name) taking sixth (22.50) while Andrew Kemer (Medina, Ohio/Medina) placed eighth (22.69).
Sean Stone (Newton Falls, Ohio/Southeast) won the weight throw with a toss of 16.91 meters. Jimmy Ritt (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) took fifth in the event with a throw of 13.66 meters. Douglas Moorer (Copley, Ohio/Copley) took second in the shot put with a throw of 13.99 meters.
The Storm is back in action next weekend at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet.
