PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College track and field team will open their indoor season this Friday (Dec 9.) and Saturday (Dec.10) as they compete at the Oiler Open at the University of Findlay.
Head Coach Grant Lofdahl said "We had a good fall with the cross country group, and good conditioning sessions with the sprinters, jumpers, and throwers in preparation for the 2016-17 season". "We are looking forward to the Oiler Open as Findlay is the site of the GLIAC meet in February, and this meet will allow us to see where we stand from a competitive stand point", said coach Lofdahl.
The Storm has talent returning to the track and field team as it returns six athletes who hold school records. For the men, D.J. Graham (Gomer, Ohio / Columbus Grove) holds records in the 3000 and 5000 meters. Vince Horning (Stow, Ohio / Stow) is the school record holder in the mile, and Jordan Pritchard (Painesville, Ohio / Lake Catholic) holds the 800 meter school record.
For the women, Nadia Lee (Tucker, Ga. / Tucker) holds the school record in the triple jump and is a two time GLIAC runner up in that event. Danielle Corbin (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Walnut Grove( Ga.)) is the school record holder in the long jump, and Gina Henley (Akron, NY / Akron HS) holds the school record in the 3000 meter.
Coach Lofdahl said "This year's team has the potential to do big things. With it being our final year in the toughest conference in the country, we want to go out with a bang".
Lake Erie will return to the track Saturday (Jan. 14) when they compete in the Northwest Ohio Classic at the University of Findlay.
