BEREA, Ohio – The Lake Erie College track and field team was in action today as they competed at the 48th annual Sparky Adams Invite. Head Coach Grant Lofdahl said "We did a lot of good things today and it was nice to see the men take second place and the women third overall".
The Storm women were led by Danielle Corbin (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Walnut Grove (Ga.)) as she won the long jump clearing a distance of 5.69 meters in the long jump. Corbin also took first place in the triple jump as she cleared a distance of 12.03 meters. Nadia Lee (Tucker, Ga. / Tucker) had a solid day as she took second place in both the long jump and triple jump, clearing distances of 5.63 meters and 11.58 meters respectively. Johanna Moeller (Bochum, Germany / Schiller-Schule Gymnasium Furjungen Und Madchen) notched a win for the Storm in the women's 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.9 seconds, which is a new personal best. Caprece Conrad (Akron, Ohio / Woodridge) and Simone Green (Akron, Ohio / Buchtel) tied for second place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.38 seconds. Josie Chaddock (Minerva, Ohio / Minerva) pitched in with a solid performance in the high jump as she cleared a height of 1.61 meters, to earn third place honors.
Coach Lofdahl added "Our female sprinters did some nice things too, led by JJ Moeller with a win in the 100 hurdles, and Caprece Conrad with two new PRs in the 100 and 200".
The men were led by Shavon Thompson (St. Andrew, Jamaica / Ardenne) as he won the 100 meter dash crossing the line in a time of 10.73 seconds. Andre Husain (Cleveland Heights, Ohio / Holy Name) took second in the 100 meter dash as he finished with a time of 10.85 seconds. Brandon Bryan (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) added to the winning ways for the Storm as he crossed the line in a personal best time of 9:58.74 minutes, which earned him first place honors in the steeplechase. Lake Erie received a solid performance out of the 800 meter race as Jordan Pritchard (Painesville, Ohio / Lake Catholic) finished second with a time of 1:.56.30 minutes and Vincent Horning (Stow, Ohio / Stow) placed fourth in a time of 1:56.47 minutes. Christopher Vogel (Kirchberg, Germany / Sportgymnasium Chemnitz) provide the Storm with as second place finish in the triple jump as he cleared as distance of 14.08 meters.
Coach Lofdahl added "Shavon Thompson had a great day, running a lifetime PR in the 100 prelims and winning the final. Andre Husain had a good day as well. It's been a night and day difference for those two from indoor season to outdoor, and they're rolling now".
Lake Erie will return to the track next weekend when they travel to compete in the Alumni Open at Ashland University.
