YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Lake Erie College track and field team was in action today as they competed in the Youngstown State Mid-Major Invitational.
Head Coach Giles Davis said, "A solid effort by the members of the men's and women's track team today. The athletes are progressing well despite the volume and intensity of the training at this point of the season."
The Storm women were led by Gina Henley (Akron, New York / Akron HS) as she took second place in her heat of the 3000 meters, as she crossed the line in a time of 11:23.60 minutes. Luca Hartman (Bonnievale, South Africa / Hcei Meisieskod Bloemhof) crossed the finish line in a time of 26.62 seconds to take second in her heat of the 200 meter dash. Hailey Nielsen (Jonesville, Mich. / Jonesville) also notched a second place heat finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.19 minutes.
The Storm men were led by Montrell Devaughn (Canton, Ohio / Canton McKinely) as he won his heat in the 200 meter dash and the 400 meter dash, with times of 22.69 seconds and 50.00 seconds respectively. Devaughn's time in the 400 meter dash earned him six place honors overall. Tareeq Welch (Tampa, Florida / Armwood) also won his heats in the 60 meter dash and 200 meter dash, with times of 7.41 seconds and 23.74 seconds respectively. Brandon Bryan (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) added a heat win in the mile with a time of 4:30.91 minutes. Xavier Kibet (Nakuru, Kenya / Baringo) added a second place finish in his heat of the 3000 meter race, with a time of 9:19.49 minutes.
Lake Erie will return to the track Saturday (Feb. 10) when they travel to compete at the Tiffin Dragon Invitational.
