HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Lake Erie College track and field team was in action today as they wrapped up their competition at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships.
Head Coach Giles Davis said, "I am proud of the competitive nature of this group. As a group we exceeded our expected point totals on both the men and women' side at the conference championships."
The Storm women were led by Johanna Moeller (Bochum, Germany / Schiller-Schule Gymnasium Furjungen Und Madchen) as she placed fifth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.27 seconds. Madyson Plante (Marlborough, Mass. / Marlborough) added a fifth place finish in the high jump as she cleared a height of 1.62 meters or 5 feet 3.25 inches. Hailey Nielsen (Jonesville, Mich. / Jonesville) followed up her conference championship in the pentathlon with a seventh place finish in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.52 meters or four feet 11.25 inches. Luca Hartman (Bonnievale, South Africa / Hcei Meisieskod Bloemhof) added to the women's performance as she placed eighth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.09 seconds.
The Storm men were led by Joseph Elson (Mount Gilead, Ohio / Mount Gilead) as he placed fourth in the 400 meters in a time of 50.60 seconds. Elson also placed seventh in the 200 meter dash in a time of 22.96 seconds. Montrell Devaughn (Canton, Ohio / Canton McKinely) added a sixth place finish in the 400 meters crossing the line in a time of 51.11 seconds. Evan Loughman (Sheridan, Ohio / Sheridan) added an eighth place finish in the shot put as he threw a distance of 14.66 meters or 48 feet 1.25 inches.
Coach Davis concluded, "Now we direct our attention to the outdoor portion of the season, with the goal of placing higher in the conference rankings."
Lake Erie will return to the track Friday (March 23) when they open up their outdoor season at the Adidas Invite.
