NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Lake Erie College outdoor track and field teams competed at the Walsh University Invitational on Friday (April 13).
The Storm had three student-athletes place in the top three on the men's side.
Montrell DeVaughn (Canton, Ohio / Canton McKinley) finished second in his heat and seventh overall in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.00 seconds. He won his heat and the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.23 seconds. Joe Elson (Mount Gilead, Ohio / Mount Gilead) was third in the 400 meter dash, finishing with a 49.66 time. Brandon Bryan (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) placed third in the 3000 meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line with a time of 10:15.34.
Three women placed in the top 15 for the Storm.
Gina Henley (Akron, New York / Akron HS) took third place in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a final time of 12:37.34. Hailey Nielsen (Jonesville, Mich. / Jonesville) finished in sixth place for the long jump as she completed a jump of 5.05 meters. She also finished eleventh in the javelin throw with a final throw of 30.50 meters. She ran the 200 meter dash in 27 seconds flat. Luca Hartman (Bonnievale, South Africa / Hcei Meisieskod Bloemhof) placed 13th overall in the 100 meter dash after finishing fourth in her heat. Her time was 12.80 seconds. In the 200 meter dash, she finished 24th with a run of 26.45 seconds.
Lake Erie will return to the track Saturday (April 21) when they travel to Baldwin Wallace, to compete in the Sparky Adams Invitational.
