PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team signed two post players to letters of intent during the fall early signing period head coach Bob Booher announced on Tuesday (Nov. 20). Mariah Evans (Imlay City, Mich./Imlay) and Kennedy Walker (Parkersburg, W. Va. /Parkersburg) will hit the court for the Storm beginning with the 2013-14 season.

"We feel that we are gaining two legitimate post players who are very skilled," Booher said.  "Both players are very hard workers and will be great additions to our program."

Evans is a three-year starter for Imlay City High School and at 6-1 can play on the low block and out on the wing.  She was named the Blue Water Area Conference defensive most valuable player and was an All-BWAC pick as a junior.  She averaged 9.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.1 blocks and 3.1 steals per game and was a Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan All-State selection.

"Mariah is a unique athlete that can mix it up with the post players down low, run with the wings on the perimeter and score at the basket or from three," Booher said.  "We expect her to be an impact player for us at both ends of the court and she should transition into our program very well."

The 6-4 Walker scored 8.3 points, grabbed 5.2 rebounds and blocked two shots a game as a junior at Parkersburg High School, improving in every statistical category from her sophomore year.  Like Evans, she showed the ability to hit the outside shot and play on the perimeter as one of the Big Red's top outside shooters.

"Kennedy has good hands and strong moves around the basket," said Booher.  "And she has scoring range from 15-feet and out as well.  Plus her size and speed will give us a new dimension on the defensive end.  (Assistant Coach) Joe Perella believes she can play on the ball in our press as well as defend at the rim."

Evans and Kennedy are the first members of the Storm's 2013 recruiting class.  Last year, Lake Erie added 14 newcomers, including 13 first-year players.  The Storm defeated Seton Hill University, 67-61, in their season opener on Nov. 13 and host the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown on Saturday, Nov. 24.
