PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team defeated Central St. today (November 16th), 92-62. With the win the Storm is now 2-0 overall and Central St. falls to 0-2.
After a back and forth battle through the first six minutes the Storm went on a 9-0 run that covered a span of two minutes. The run was highlighted by a three ball by senior guard Jackie Murray (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio / St. Vincent-St. Mary), at the end of the run the Storm led, 24-13 with 11:47 to play in the first half.
Lake Erie gradually increased their lead throughout the remainder of the first half and finished the half with a 46-27 advantage.
The Storm opened the second half on an 8-2 run that stretched the lead to 25 points, 54-29. Junior guard Sami Narducci (North Royalton, Ohio / North Royalton) had a steal and finished the fast break layup to highlight the run for Lake Erie.
Lake Erie College and Central St. traded buckets for the remainder of the half, and Lake Erie finshed the game with a 30 point advantage, 92-62.
The Storm was led by three players who each had 15 points, freshman forward Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor), senior forward Chloe Irish (LaGrange, Ohio / Keystone), and junior center Kaeding Skelton (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven). Skelton lead the team in rebounds with eight, and also four steals in the game.
Off the bench for the Storm sophomore guard Daija Jones (Cleveland, Ohio / St. Joseph Academy) had 13 points and was 6-6 from the foul line, and also had a game high seven steals.
Lake Erie will be back in action Wednesday (November 19th) when they travel to West Virginia to take on Wheeling Jesuit at 7 P.M.
