PAINESVILLE, Ohio— The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was unable to maintain their halftime lead as they fell to the University of Findlay, 66-58, in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play Saturday (Jan. 24) in Painesville.

The Storm jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the opening minute-and-a half, with Jackie Murray (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) hitting a three in between baskets by Sami Narducci (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) and Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor).  The Storm offense slowed down a bit after a Findlay timeout but they increase their lead to nine, 11-2, five minutes in.  Following a media timeout, the Storm put together a 7-3 run before Findlay called a timeout.  Murray hit her second three-pointer of the half to give the Storm a 21-5 edge halfway through the first half. The Oilers went on a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 11, 23-12, with five minutes to go in the opening half.  After a media timeout, the Oilers cut the lead to seven but a three-pointer by Shelby Carpenter (Dayton, Ohio/Miami Valley) put the Storm lead back at double digits.  The Oilers answered with a 5-0 run to cut the lead in half.  In the final minute of the half, the Oilers chipped another point off the Lake Erie lead as the Storm took a 28-24 advantage into the locker room.

Gabor led the Storm with 11 points in the first half.  Murray had six points while Carpenter had five.  Chloe Irish (LaGrange, Ohio/Keystone) had seven rebounds in the half.  The Storm shot 41.4% (12-of-29) and outrebounded the Oilers 18-12.

The Oilers opened the second half on a 19-8 run to take the lead, 43-38.  The Storm answered with a 4-0 run to cut the lead to one.  However, the Oilers went on an 11-0 run to gain a 12 point lead.  Murray brought the Storm to within nine with her fourth three-pointer with five minutes to play.  However, the Oilers led by as much as 14 heading into the final minute of play.  The Storm went on a 6-0 run in the final minute but it was not enough to overcome the Oiler lead.

Gabor ended the game with 14 points, three assists and four rebounds.  Murray had 12 points to go with eight rebounds and a team-high five assists.  Carpenter also ended in double figures with 10 points in addition to three rebounds. Kaeding Skelton (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) had eight points, two rebounds and a team-high three steals. Irish finished the game with nine rebounds. Narducci finished with a pair of rebounds and three assists.  Christine Dawson (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) and Brianna Shagovac (Lorain, Ohio/Amherst Steele) had four points apiece.

Lake Erie outrebounded Findlay 38-28.
