FINDLAY, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was defeated today (February 14th) by Findlay, 78-57. With the loss the Storm falls to 9-16 overall and 4-15 in the conference, and with the win the Oilers improve to 13-10 overall and 9-10 in conference play.
The first half started as a back and forth battle with the game being tied or the lead changing hands seven times in the first nine minutes. Lake Erie led the game 19-17 with 11:36 to play when guard Sami Narducci (North Royalton, Ohio / North Royalton) hit a three off of an assist by freshman guard Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor). Findlay went on a quick 5-0 run that gave them a five point advantage, 31-26. The run was ended when guard Shelby Carpenter (Dayton, Ohio / Miami Valley) hit a pair of foul shots. Lake Erie went on a 6-0 run late in the half to take a one point advantage. The run was highlighted by a pair of Christine Dawson (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) foul shots. The Storm entered the half trailing by two, 38-36.
The Oilers opened the second half on a 6-0 run that gave them an eight point advantage, 44-36. The run was ended by a thirty second timeout taken by the Storm. Lake Erie went on a 7-2 run that cut the lead to three points, 46-43. The run was highlighted by guard Jackie Murray (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio / St. Vincent-St. Mary) who hit a three off of an assist by Narducci. Findlay answered with an 8-0 run that saw the lead grow to 11 points. The run was ended when Gabor hit a three off of an assist by Carpetner, to make the score, 54-46. The Oilers went on 6-0 run that gave them a 20 point advantage. The run was ended by Carpenter when she hit an unassisted jumper, to make the score 71-53. Findlay won the game by 21 points, 78-57.
Lake Erie was led by Gabor who had 15 points and two rebounds. Carpenter had 11 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Murray led the way in rebounds and assists with six and three respectively.
The Storm will be back in action Thursday (February 19th) when they host Tiffin University at 5:30 P.M.
