PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was defeated today by Ursuline, 100-69. With the loss the Storm falls to 2-1 overall and the Arrows improve to 2-0 overall.
The Storm scored the first two buckets of the game when Kaeding Skelton (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) and Shelby Carpenter (New Lebanon, Ohio / Miami Valley) each made layups that were assisted by Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor). The Storm maintained their lead for the majority of the quarter before the Arrows went on a 12-0 run, that was halted by Christine Dawson (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor). The Arrows led at the end of the first quarter, (28-18).
The second quarter was a hard fought battle in which the Storm played well, but were unable to cut into the Ursuline lead, and the Arrows led 50-34 at the half. At the half, the Storm was led by Gabor who had 10 points, and five assists.
The Arrows pulled away in the third quarter when they went on a 13-3 run, which was ended by a Dawson layup. The Storm ended the third quarter on a 5-0 run that highlighted by a three pointer by Gabor and a jump shot by Sami Narducci (North Royalton, Ohio / North Royalton); the Storm entered the fourth quarter trailing 74-55.
Lake Erie opened the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run that cut the Ursuline lead to 14, (76-62). Carpenter led the run as she scored five of the seven points and had a steal. The Arrows pulled away throughout the remainder of the quarter and won the game, 100-69.
The Storm was led by Gabor who had 22 points, seven assists, and five rebounds. Carpenter added 20 points, five rebounds, and two steals for the Storm. Skelton led the Storm with six rebounds in the game.
Lake Erie will be back in action Saturday (November 21st) when they host Daemen College at 7 P.M.
