Big Second Half Lifts Huskies Over Storm

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was defeated today by Michigan Tech, 65-29.  With the loss the Storm falls to 4-9 overall and 1-6 in the conference and with the win the Huskies improve to 8-3 overall and 6-1 in conference play.   

After the Huskies opened the game on a 5-0 run the Storm responded with a 5-0 run and to tie the game at 5 points apiece.  The run was highlighted by Sami Narducci (North Royalton, Ohio / North Royalton) as she made a layup, and assisted on a Kaeding Skelton (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) layup.  After the media timeout the Huskies went on a 10-0 run and took a 15-5 advantage.  The run was ended when Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) made a jumper and cut the lead to 15-7.  The Storm entered the second quarter trailing the Huskies, 17-9.    

The Storm opened the second quarter on a 6-0 run that cut the Huskies lead to 19-15.  The run was highlighted by a Sophie Sonneman (Jamestown, Ohio / Greeneview) layup that came off of an assist by Brianna Shagovac (Lorain, Ohio / Amherst Steele).  The Storm carried their momentum through the media time out and tied the game at 19 points apiece, behind Christine Dawson (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) who had two layups to tie the game.  The Storm entered the half trailing the Huskies, 21-19.  The Storm held the Huskies offense in check only allowing four points in the quarter.  At the intermission the Storm was led by Dawson as she had seven points, and four blocks.          

The Huskies opened the third quarter on an 11-2 run and took a 32-21 advantage, the run was ended by a Storm timeout.  The Huskies continued to play well and opened up a 47-23 advantage entering the fourth quarter. 

The Huskies continued to ride their second half momentum in the fourth quarter and edged the Storm by a score of 65-29.

The Storm was led by Dawson scored a team high eight points, and tied a career high with four blocks on the night.  Narducci also pitched in on the defensive end as she recorded two steals. 

Lake Erie will be back in action Saturday (January 9th) when they host Northern Michigan at 1 P.M.
