Storm Falls on Road to Panthers

COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Lake Erie College women's basketball team dropped their fourth straight game on Monday (Jan. 30) by a final score of 83-50 to the Ohio Dominican University Panthers.

Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) and Christine Dawson (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) scored the first two baskets in the first minute for the Storm. Lake Erie led 4-2 then the Panthers went on a 9-0 run, taking an 11-4 lead. Josie Chaddock (Minerva, Ohio / Minerva) split a pair of free throws and hit a jumper as the Storm cut the lead to 11-7 with 5:44 left in the first. Ohio Dominican answered with a 15-4 run that pushed the lead to 15. Dawson and Daija Jones (Cleveland, Ohio / St. Joseph Academy) scored the final four points for the Storm as they trailed 26-15 after one quarter.

Dawson opened the second quarter with a layup, pulling the Storm within nine. Ohio Dominican pulled away in the second quarter as they ended the half on a 20-2 run. The Panthers led 46-19 at halftime. Dawson led the Storm with six points in the half.

Gabor scored the first two baskets for the Storm in the third quarter as the Storm exchanged buckets with the Panthers over the course of the period. In the final minute of the third, Victoria Burdo (Waterville, Ohio / Anthony Wayne) knocked down a three and Brianna Shagovac (Lorain, Ohio / Amherst Steele) made a free throw. The two combined on a 4-0 run to conclude the third quarter as the Panthers led 62-38.

Burdo followed a free throw by Sophie Sonneman (Jamestown, Ohio / Greeneview) with a layup, making it a 7-0 Storm run. The Storm trailed 62-41 at that point. Ohio Dominican answered with a 10-4 run and finished the game with an 83-50 win.

Gabor led the Storm with ten points, six rebounds and five assists. Dawson added nine points and three steals. Burdo scored seven points and had three steals off the bench.

Lake Erie returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 2) as they host Tiffin University at 5:30 PM.
