Gabor's Triple-Double Highlights Storm Victory, 83-75

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team used a huge fourth quarter run to defeat the Ohio Dominican Panthers on Thursday (Feb. 15) night. The Storm defeated the Panthers 83-75 in a Great Midwest contest.

Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) finished the contest with the fifth triple-double of the season and a Lake Erie and G-MAC single-game record 16 assists along with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Ohio Dominican opened the game with a 5-2 run over the first two minutes. Lake Erie responded with a 6-0 run, including three layups by Gabor, Christine Dawson (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) and Ashley West (Willoughby Hills, Ohio / Cornerstone Christian). After Gabor gave the Storm a 10-9 advantage before the media timeout, Ohio Dominican ended the quarter with a 16-2 run. The Panthers led 25-12 after one quarter.

Breanna Bauer (Port Huron, Mich. / Northern) scored four points as Lake Erie opened the second quarter with a 6-2 run in the first three minutes. Ohio Dominican pushed the lead to 12 with 4:30 left in the first half. Farrah Benner (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) scored eight points as four players combined on a Lake Erie 14-2 rally. Lee Lee Barrett (Chattanooga, Tenn. / Ooltewah) tied the game at 32 with a layup with 1:08 left. The Panthers led 34-32 at the intermission.

Gabor opened the second half with a three pointer as Lake Erie regained the 35-34 lead 45 seconds in. Gabor scored the first seven points for the Storm as they led 39-36 with eight minutes left. After Josie Chaddock (Minerva, Ohio / Minerva) made a jumper for a Lake Erie 41-38 lead, Ohio Dominican answered with an 8-0 run. The run gave the Panthers a 46-41 lead with 5:30 left. Dawson trimmed the advantage to one but the Panthers led 55-50 after three quarters.

The Panthers pushed the lead to nine with seven minutes left, holding a 64-55 lead. Chaddock converted a three point play that tied the game at 66 following an 11-2 Storm run. After Chaddock tied the game, four players combined to continue the comeback with an 11-1 run over the next two minutes. Lake Erie held a 77-67 lead. Overall, the Storm turned a nine point deficit into a ten point lead with a 22-3 over a span of 4:37 minutes. The Storm made six free throws to seal the 83-75 victory.

Gabor led all scorers with her 20 points, 16 assists and 11 rebounds. Benner was one of four players in double-figures as she made four three pointers as a part of 16 points. Dawson had 12 points, six rebounds, six steals and four blocks. Chaddock made four field goals and four free throws for a total of 12 points and four steals. Bauer was four-of-four from the floor for eight points.

Lake Erie will travel to Cedarville on Saturday (Feb. 17) for their final road contest of the regular season.
