PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie Storm women's basketball team defended their home court with a 76-63 win this evening against G-MAC foe, Tiffin University.
The Storm got off to a quick 8-0 lead in the first with a layup by Sophie Sonneman, assisted by Josie Chaddock at the 7:00 mark. The Dragons fought back for a 10-9 lead with 3:53 left, and scored six more before going into the second quarter with a score of 16-13, in favor of the visiting Tiffin Dragons. Farrah Benner tied things up quickly, and the teams exchanged scoring runs for most of the second until a pair of layups by Josie Chaddock put the Storm ahead going into the locker room at the end of the first half.
After the half, the Storm got things rolling, with a seven-point quarter from Storm Freshman Elaine Billings to put the Storm even further ahead, with a score of 56-48 going into the last quarter of the contest. Chaddock made good on six free throws in the final quarter, and her leadership on the court helped seal the deal for the Storm.
Chaddock led the team in scoring with 19 points, and recorded eight assists, three rebounds, and two steals. Ashley West added 14 points, six rebounds, and four steals.
Off the bench, Farrah Benner recorded 17 points, 15 of which came from beyond the arc, two assists, and one block and steal. Elaine Billings added 11 with five rebounds, and one assist and steal.
Head coach Brook Kohlheim was pleased with how her team executed after their loss to the top team in the conference. "Tiffin is tough and physical, I thought we responded well in that area, especially after our loss to Cedarville. The ball moved well and it felt like a team win."
The Storm returns to play on Thursday, January 17 at 5:30pm for another home game against Malone University.
