PAINESVILLE, Ohio - The Lake Erie College Storm women's basketball team dropped the contest against the University of Findlay Oilers tonight with a final score of 67-57. With the loss, the Storm's overall record is 11-11, with a Great Midwest Athletic Conference record of 8-9. Findlay's record improves to 16-6, with a conference record of 12-5.
Although the Oilers had a commanding lead in the first quarter, the Storm chipped away and earned their first lead of the night with four and a half minutes left to play in the second quarter when Ashley West made a layup to put the Storm up 20-19. The two teams traded leads evenly, but the Oilers went into the locker rooms with the advantage, with a score of 29-27 at the half.
They traded leads again through the third and fourth quarters, until an Oilers three pointer gave them the lead for good with five minutes left to play.
Anna Hintz recorded a double-double for the Oilers, scoring 20 points, 16 of which were in the second half, and ten rebounds.
Leading the Storm was senior Breanna Bauer, recording 16 points and three rebounds. Ashley West added 12 points with six rebounds, and two assists. Coming off the bench for the Storm was freshman Laney Billing, scoring 11 points and recording three rebounds and one assist.
The Storm returns to the Osborne Center for the final time in regular season play on Saturday, Feb. 16, when Hillsdale College comes to Painesville on Storm Senior Day. Tip-off is scheduled for 1pm.
