(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – Senior Day didn't go as well as hoped for Lake Erie as it fell in a 64-43 contest to visiting Hillsdale on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Storm to 11-12 overall and 8-10 in the conference. The Chargers improved to 13-11 and 11-7 in the same categories.
It was a largely defensive game with neither team shooting above 35 percent. Both teams added nine steals and four blocks for extra defensive stops, but Hillsdale's advantage came on the glass where the visitors led in the rebound category 51-37.
Lake Erie led 27-26 at the half, but a slow third quarter doomed the Storm as it scored only five points in the period. In the meantime Hillsdale closed out strong with a pair of 19-point frames in each of the final two quarters.
The Green and White now head on the road for the final four games of the regular season. With the current standings, Lake Erie sits in ninth as will look to move in the top eight for a second consecutive G-MAC tournament appearance. The first step in that process will take place this Thursday at Cedarville. Tip-off with the Yellow Jackets is set for 5:30 p.m.
