PAINESVILLE, OHIO - Sophomore attacker Julia Kudla (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) scored a team-high four goals but they came in a losing effort as Lake Erie College (2-13, 0-7 ECC) fell in the women's lacrosse action to Queens College, 23-12, in Flushing N.Y.
Freshman attacker Annie Mendoza (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Catholic) and sophomore midfielder Meredith Howe (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewilt) also each netted multiple goals in the game, with three and two, respectively. Mendoza also added a game-high tying three assists. The Knights were led by Brittany Wooster with six goals and Heather Rosen with five goals and three assists.
Queens got on the board with the game's first goal but Lake Erie scored three straight goals in under one minute's time to take a 3-1 advantage when Mendoza found the back of the net. After the teams traded goals, Queens broke off a five goal run to take command with a 7-4 lead. The Storm cut the deficit to one as Kudla and Mendoza both won unassisted goals, but the Knights went on another 5-0 run to take a 12-6 advantage at 6:44 in the first half. Kudla and Howe both scored in the final two minutes of the first half to put Lake Erie within striking distance at 12-8.
Four goals down was as close as Lake Erie would get the second half. Over the game's last 17 minutes, Queens scored eight of the nine goals scored with Mendoza adding her third goal for the Storm defeat.
Queens outshot Lake Erie, 43-24, won the battle of ground balls, 22-15.
The Storm has now lost 10 straight contests but will hope to close out the season on a positive note tomorrow (May 8) as they face Bridgeport in an ECC matchup at 1:00 p.m.
