BELMONT, N.C.—The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team was unable to come away with a victory against Belmont Abbey College, falling to the Crusaders 17-5 Thursday (March 6) in North Carolina.
The Crusaders scored the first two goals of the game before Emma Miller (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) got the Storm on the board. Belmont Abbey increased their lead to 5-1 before the Storm scored back-to-back goals from Ashriel West (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) and Hana Abu-Kwiek (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) to cut the lead to two but the Crusaders closed the half on a 5-0 run.
Leading 10-3 to start the second-half, Belmont Abbey scored three goals before Kayla Bohn (Louisville, Ky./Eastern) halted their run. West added her second goal late in the half but it was not enough as the Storm fell.
West had two points for the game while Miller had two as well on a goal and an assist. Abu-Kwiek and Moser had one goal each while Breana Moser (Ganhanna, Ohio/Gahanna) and Mallory Quiggle had one assist each.
Katie Holden (Whitby, Ont./Anderson C.V.I.) led the Storm with seven groundballs. Abu-Kwiek led the Storm with six draw controls while Bohn had three. The teams were even in faceoffs won with 11 each.
The Storm returns to Painesville on Tuesday (March 11) to open the home slate of their schedule against Notre Dame College.
