SYRACUSE, N.Y.—The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team was unsuccessful on the road at fifth-ranked Le Moyne College Saturday (March 15).
Le Moyne opened the game on a 3-0 run before Hana Abu-Kwiek (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) scored a man-up goal to cut the lead to two. The Dolphins netted two more goals before Abu-Kwiek scored her second goal and Ashriel West (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) scored her first to bring the lead to 5-3. However, Le Moyne scored six straight goals to close the half with an 11-3 lead.
Samantha Gryba (Okotoks, Alberta/National Sport Academy) broke up the Dolphin run with the first goal of the second-half but Le Moyne responded in a big way, scoring the final eight goals to seal the win.
Abu-Kwiek led the Storm in scoring with two goals and one assist while Gryba and West added one.
Goalkeeper Katie Holden (Whitby, Ont./Anderson C.V.I.) led Lake Erie with five groundballs in addition to her 15 saves. Abu-Kwiek also led the Storm with three draw controls while picking up three groundballs. Deianira Smith had two groundballs. Moser (Gahanna, Ohio/Gahanna), Amanda Getto (Medina, Ohio/Medina), Holden, Abu-Kwiek and West had one caused turnover apiece.
The Storm opens their home schedule Wednesday (March 19) against Mercyhurst University.
