PAINESVILLE, Ohio— The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team wrapped up their regular season against Grand Valley State University Friday (April 24), falling to the Lakers 21-5.
The Lakers scored two free-position goals before Taylor Mathis (Corning, N.Y./Corning) got the Storm on the board. The Lakers offense continued to produce goals, jumping out to a 6-1 lead. Taylor Izzo (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) broke up the Laker run with a free-position goal. After the Lakers netted five straight, Mathis and Izzo scored back-to-back goals to cut the lead to seven. However, the Lakers closed out the half with two goals to take a 13-4 lead into the break.
The Lakers scored the first eight goals of the second half before Kayla Bohn (Louisville, Ky./Eastern) broke up the Lakers run but it was not enough as the Lakers wrapped up the win.
Izzo and Mathis had two goals apiece while Bohn had one. Mathis also had an assist.
Katie Holden (Whitby, Ont./Anderson C.V.I.) had a team-high four groundballs. Mathis had three while Mathis and Bohn had two. Izzo and Mathis combined for five draw controls. Anastasia Crawford (Corning, N.Y./Corning Painted Post East) had two draw controls. Izzo also had a team-high three groundballs.
The Storm will host their first round GLIAC playoff game on Tuesday (April 28).
