PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team will open the 2018 season on Sunday (March 4) afternoon with a non-conference matchup with the Rock of Slippery Rock University at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium. The game will begin at 1:00 PM.
"Looking for the team to hold their own against a very tough opponent. It's our first game of the season so I'm sure we will see some first game jitters. Our response means everything," said Storm head coach Mallory Ferrandiz.
Storm Report: Lake Erie enters the 2018 season coming off a 10-5 overall season with an appearance in the GLIAC Quarterfinals. Taylor Mathis (Corning, N.Y. / Corning) led the Storm with 59 goals scored. Anastasia Crawford (Corning, N.Y. / Corning Painted Post East) and Anna Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) were second and third on the team with 38 and 35 goals, respectively. Harmony Moore (Farmington, N.Y. / Canadaigua Academy) made 87 saves in the goal last season.
Opposition Position: The Rock is 1-0 on the season with a 19-1 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan last week. Jasey Sanders leads the Rock with four goals scored this season.
Preseason Rankings: Lake Erie was named as the preseason favorite in the G-MAC after the Storm earned 35 points (five first place votes) in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour.
Series History: Lake Erie and Slippery Rock have faced on the field four times since 2010. Slippery Rock leads the series 4-0. In the last meeting, Slippery Rock defeated the Storm 15-8 during the 2016 season.
Storm Forecast: The Storm will host Wheeling Jesuit on Thursday (March 8) at 7:00 PM.
