Storm Fall to Lakers In Season Opener

(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – In a battle between two nationally ranked teams, No. 19 Lake Erie was upended by No. 16 Grand Valley by a score of 14-4 at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium. The Friday evening showdown served as the season opener for both teams.

The Lakers opened the day with the first five goals before Ireland Kennedy eventually put Lake Erie on the board with an unassisted goal at the 8:05 mark in the first half.

The Storm were held off the board until the second stanza when Riley Heffron made the score 7-2 just under seven minutes in. However the Lakers prevented the Green and White from generating any more momentum with the next four goals.

Anna Spin scored a pair of points to lead the offense. She scored the third Storm goal on a free position attempt and assisted Alexis Barrickman on a goal in the final minute.

Harmony Moore took the loss, but still played well with 14 saves on 31 shots faced.

The Storm will return to action at the Britt next Saturday when they host the University of Charleston. First draw is set for 4 p.m.
