EAST LANSING, Mich.-- The Lake Erie College wrestling team opened its 2013-14 season at the Michigan State University Open, battling against some of the top Division I and II talent in the nation Saturday (Nov. 9).
Jacob Peasley (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) led the way for the Storm, finishing 4-1 in the Freshmen/Sophomore Division at 165 pounds, capturing fifth place. Peasley picked up two pinfalls and a technical fall en route to the finish.
Dylan Kager (Shalersville, Ohio/Crestwood) also had a top-eight finish in the Freshmen/Sophomore Division, going 3-2 in the 141-pound weight class, picking up a pinfall and two decisions.
All-American Zak Vargo ended the day at 2-1 in the 165-pound Open Division before conceding to injury, picking a pinfall in his first match.
Austin Gillihan (Corry, Pa./Corry Area), Bobby Zappitelli (Painesville Twp., Ohio/Lake Catholic), Tyler Tesny (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Northwest) and Dylan Zivcic (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor/Lakeland) also picked up a win in the Open Division.
The Storm wrestlers are back in action next Saturday (Nov. 16), competing at the Mount Union Invitational.
