Storm Upends Findlay for GLIAC Dual Win

PAINESVILLE, Ohio—The 12th-ranked Lake Erie College wrestling team faced the 14th-ranked University of Findlay Oilers in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) dual Saturday (Feb. 6).

The Storm won 33-9. 

At 125 pounds, Forrest Glogouski (New Paris, Ind./Farifield) faced Mike Stewart.  Glogouski scored the first points with a quick takedown.  After two near falls, Glogouski finished the match with a pin. 

At 133 pounds, Austin Gillihan (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) faced Skylar Phillips.  Phillips landed the first takedown of the match, keeping Gillihan down the remainder of the first.  After a scoreless second, Gillihan scored a reversal to open the third.  He worked his advantage to a near fall to gain a 4-2 lead to win the match. 

At 141 pounds, Ian Ross (Newark, N.Y./Newark) faced Ryan Skonieczny.  Skonieczny turned a takedown late in the opening period into a pinfall, bringing the match score to 9-6. 

At 149 pounds, Nick Boggs (Concord Township, Ohio/Riverside) faced Doug Rojem.  Boggs scored the first takedown of the match.  In the second period, Boggs started on bottom and worked towards a reversal.    Boggs kept Rojem down the entire third period for the 5-0 decision. 

At 157 pounds, Hunter Turner (North Branch, Mich./North Branch) faced Joey White.  Turner completed the first takedown of the bout, matched by a White escape.  In the second, White escaped and followed with a takedown which Hunter quickly escaped.  Hunter escaped late in the third but White had a late takedown and the riding time advantage for the 7-4 decision. 

At 165 pounds, eighth-ranked Matt Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) faced Nic Skonieczny.  After a scoreless first period, Vandermeer picked up the first points with an escape to start the second.  That proved to be the only point of the match as Vandermeer picked up the decision win. 

At 174 pounds, Nicholas Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) faced Alonzo Turner.  After a scoreless first period, Vandermeer scored the first point with an escape early in the second. Turner knotted it up with an escape in the third.  He followed up with a takedown.  Vandermeer escaped to cut the lead to one but Turner secured a second takedown.  Late in the period following s scramble, Vandermeer took Turner down and got a four point near fall for the 10-8 win.  

At 184 pounds, Tyler Hughes (Burnswick, Ohio/Brunswick) faced Randy Caris.   Hughes landed the first takedown midway through the first.  After riding out the rest of the period, Hughes increased his lead to three with an escape in the second.  Caris escaped in the third to cut the gap to two but a point of riding time gave him a 4-1 decision. 

At 197 pounds, eighth-ranked Evan Rosborough (Concord Township. Ohio/Riverside) faced Dalton Ishmael.   Rosborough picked up an early takedown, working it into a pin, securing the Storm win. 

At 285 pounds, Noah Hosking (Milford, Mich./Milford) faced Gerald Beck.  Hosking scored the first takedown midway through the first period.  After a reset, Hosking turned it into a pinfall to end the dual. 

The Storm is back in action Feb. 10 at Tiffin University for their final GLIAC dual.
