15th Ranked Storm To Host 5th Annual Storm Open (Preview)

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College wrestling team will play host to 21 teams on Sunday (Dec. 3) for the 5th Annual Storm Open at the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic and Wellness Center.

Action will begin at 9:00 AM across several mats at the Osborne Center.  21 teams will be represented from three divisions and six different states, most of which the Storm have seen in action so far this year at the first four events.

Some of the teams participating are Ashland, Cleveland State, Gannon, Kent State, Mercyhurst, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame College and Pittsburgh-Johnstown.

Storm Report: Lake Erie last competed at the Findlay Open two weeks ago where four wrestlers placed in the top eight. Blake Glogouski (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) finished third at 125 pounds while Sean O'Hearon (Albion, Mich. / -) placed fifth at 141 pounds. Jesse Palser (Mansfield, Ohio / Mansfield) and John Penfold (Metamora, Mich. / Goodrich) finished fifth and eighth, respectively at 197 pounds.

National Rankings: Lake Erie improved their national ranking and had four wrestlers rank in the latest edition of the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches' Association Poll, released November 24th. The Storm is now tied for 15th, up from 18th in the preseason poll. B. Glogouski is ranked 5th in the 125 pound weight class. O'Hearon is slotted 12th in the 141 pound class. 165-pounder Nick Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston) is 6th in the nation while Tyler Hughes (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) is eighth in the 184-pound weight class.

Super Region 2 Rankings: The Storm was ranked fourth of 13 teams in the Super Region 2 Rankings with seven individual wrestlers ranked, released on November 22nd. B. Glogouski is the top ranked grappler in the 125 pound class. Forrest Glogouski (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) is sixth in the 133 pound weight class. O'Hearon enters the regional rankings at 141 pounds in second with John Siemasz (Livonia, Mich. / -) ranked third at 149 pounds. Vandermeer is sixth at 165 pounds, Hughes is second at 184 pounds, Palser is eighth at 197 pounds and Brandon Houle (Sparta, Mich. / Rockford / Hope) is sixth at heavyweight.

Flashback: Last year, the Storm had nine wrestlers place in the top four in respective weight classes at the Storm Open.

Storm Forecast: Lake Erie will close the 2017 calendar year out at the Midwest Classic in two weeks in Indianapolis, Indiana.
