Storm Fall to Wheeling Jesuit, 2-0

PAINESVILLE, Ohio - The Lake Erie College women's soccer team stumbled to a 2-0 loss to Wheeling Jesuit University on Tuesday (Sept. 22) afternoon at Slattery Field.

The Cardinals (4-4) tallied the first goal of the match in the 34th minute as Rachael Mills connected on a bicycle kick goal from seven yards out to beat Lake Erie keeper Chelsea Giesen (Grants Pass, Ore./North Valley). Hannah Walker picked up the assist with a short pass to Mills, who knocked the ball over her left shoulder and into the right side of net.

Just three minutes after the intermission, Kara Houston made it 2-0 by poking a shot past keeper Jaimie Nelson (Las Vegas, Nev./Las Vegas), who entered the game in net at halftime.

The Storm (2-4-2) managed 10 shots, including five on goal, in the game, but Wheeling Jesuit goalkeeper Jessica Park earned the clean sheet, stopping all five shots. Giesen stopped six shots for the Storm.

Lake Erie finishes its six-game homestand Saturday (Sept. 26) at 1 p.m. against Ohio Valley. It will be the first half of a soccer doubleheader with a men's game to follow.
