PAINESVILLE, OHIO -- After the Lake Erie College volleyball team evened the match at one set apiece, host Ohio Dominican University won the next two sets for a 3-1 victory in the season finale for both teams Saturday (Nov. 6) at Alumni Hall in Columbus.
The loss was the seventh straight setback to end the season for the Storm (4-26, 1-18 GLIAC), which finished seventh in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division in its first season in the league.
The Panthers (8-19, 3-16 GLIAC) took the opening set easily, 25-9, but Lake Erie rebounded for a 25-21 victory to tie things up. ODU then took set three 25-11 and held on for a 25-20 victory in set four for their second win of the season over the Storm.
Both teams are first-year members of the GLIAC.
Freshman Molly Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) continued her strong late-season play with a match-high 12 kills to lead Lake Erie. Junior Krista O'Connor (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) paced the defense with 18 digs.
Rachel Billing had 11 kills and Shannon Nadler 10 to lead the Panthers, who snapped a seven-match losing streak with the win. Two other ODU players had nine kills.
