CANTON, Ohio—The Lake Erie College volleyball team played the Malone University Pioneers close but was unable to escape Canton with a win, falling in three sets Friday (Oct. 24) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
Malone won the sets 25-21, 25-19 and 25-22.
The Storm and Pioneers battled closely in the first two sets early on. The Pioneers slowly started to pull away midway through the sets but the Storm kept in close at all times. The third set opened with the Storm coming out hot, taking a 10-6 lead. However, the Pioneers regained their footing and tied it up at 13, and eventually captured the set.
Asya Hobbs (Lynwood, Ill./Bishop Noll) and Madison Russell (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South) led the Storm on the night with six kills. Hobbs also added eight digs and three blocks. Bethany Fisher (Orrville, Ohio/Dalton), Sara Aultz (Wooster, Ohio/Orrville) and Mikaela Lengal (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick/Ashland) had five kills apiece.
Defensively, Jamie Riley (Prospect, Ohio/Olentnagy) led the Storm with 11 digs. Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich./Saline) was right behind her with ten while Kathryn Ferry (Lima, Ohio/Lima Central Catholic) had eight. Aultz got in on five blocks.
Samantha Knepley (Munith, Ohio/Stockbridge) had 22 assists to go with her seven digs.
The Storm is back in action tomorrow as they take on Walsh University.
