AMHERST, New York- For the first time in over seven years, the Lake Erie College volleyball team has won four consecutive matches. The Storm improved to 4-3 on the year with two wins on the final day of the Daeman College/Hyatt Place Volleyball Classic on Sunday (Sept. 11).
The Storm swept Assumption in three sets (25-21, 26-24, 25-23) before going five sets in the victory over Saint Rose (25-9, 25-27, 24-26, 25-12, 15-5).
In the opening match of the day, the Storm dispatched Assumption in three sets. The offense was led by Lee Lee Barrett (Chattanooga, Tn. / Ooltewah), who finished with 12 kills. Brooke Peiffer (Lansing, Mich. / Holt) was one kill behind Barrett and one dig shy of a double-double (11 kills, nine digs). Lexi Lombardo (Olmsted Falls, Ohio / Olmsted Falls) added nine kills to the offensive side. Alexis Thomas (Cincinnati, Ohio / Fairfield) had 38 assists along with four kills and three digs. Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich. / Saline) totaled 15 digs.
Lake Erie and Saint Rose went back and forth in the Storm's final match of the weekend. The Storm rallied from a 2-1 deficit to take the match 3-2 in five sets. Peiffer set a new season-high with 16 kills. She also was second on the team with 16 digs. Barrett added 15 kills while Bethany Fisher had 14 kills and six digs. Crystal Kedroske (Dexter, Mich. / Dexter) had a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs. Fletcher led the defense with 17 digs while Thomas set a season-high with 58 assists.
Peiffer was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performances in the tournament.
The Storm will travel to Alderson-Broaddus on Tuesday (Sept. 13) for a non-conference matchup.
