COLUMBUS, Ohio— The Lake Erie College volleyball team bested Ohio Dominican University in straight sets Tuesday (Sept. 27) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action.
The Storm won the sets 25-10, 25-21 and 25-17.
The Storm jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the opening half. They continued to control the pace of set, pushing their lead up to 17-6 before the Panthers called a timeout to try to stall the Storm momentum. The timeout failed to stop the momentum as the Storm won the ensuing three points. The Storm closed out the opening set shortly after, 25-10.
The Storm maintained a small lead early on in set two but the Panthers tied it up at eight. After trading points back-and-forth, the Storm slowly started to pull away, 17-14. After the Panthers called a timeout trailing 19-16, the Storm finished strong, capturing the second set 25-21.
The teams found themselves tied at eight in the third set before the Storm rattled off three straight points to take an 11-8 lead and force a Panther timeout. Following the timeout, the Storm started to gain momentum, going on a 7-3 run to force the Panther's second timeout of the set. Once again, the timeout failed to stop they Storm as they went on to win the set to 25-17.
Crystal Kedroske (Dexter, Mich./Dexter) led the Storm offense with 12 kills. She also tallied seven digs. Brooke Peiffer (Lansing, Mich./Holt) also finished with double digit kills, tallying 10 to go with six digs. Bethany Fisher (Orrville, Ohio/Dalton) totaled six kills while Alexis Thomas (Cincinnati, Ohio/Fairfield) and Lexi Lombardo (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) had five apiece. Thomas also had three aces.
Overall, the Storm hit .341.
The Storm is back in action Friday (Sept. 30) at home against Ferris State University.
