HOUGHTON, Mich- For the 11th time this season, the Lake Erie College volleyball team played a match to five sets. The Storm fell to the Michigan Tech Huskies 3-2 (25-23, 26-24, 13-25, 18-25, 10-15) on Friday (Oct. 21) night. Lake Erie now has a record of 13-12 overall and 4-5 in the GLIAC.
Lake Erie trailed most of the first set until a late run put the Storm in a tie with the Huskies. Lake Erie tied the game at 22 and clinched the first set with a 3-1 run to end it. In the second set, both teams exchanged the lead throughout the set. Like the first set, Lake Erie went on a late 9-5 run to erase a late three point lead.
Lake Erie opened a 1-0 lead in the third before Michigan Tech took control and won the third set. The Huskies turned the tables on the Storm in the fourth set as the hosts charged for a late lead in the set. In the fifth and final set, Lake Erie couldn't muster any momentum and fell 3-2.
Brooke Peiffer (Lansing, Mich. / Holt) and Bethany Fisher (Orrville, Ohio / Dalton) led the Storm offense with 12 kills in the match. Peiffer added ten digs on defense too. Crystal Kedroske (Dexter, Mich. / Dexter) led the team with 24 digs while she added five block assists. Kedroske was one of five Storm players with double-digit digs. Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich. / Saline) added 18 digs and Jamie Riley (Prospect, Ohio / Olentangy) finished with ten. Alexis Thomas (Cincinnati, Ohio / Fairfield) had 12 digs and 38 assists. Lee Lee Barrett (Chattanooga, Tenn. / Ootlewah) had a match-high seven block assists.
Lake Erie will have a quick turnaround as they conclude the Michigan trip with a 4:00 PM match at Northern Michigan on Saturday (Oct. 22).
