Storm Wins Fifth Straight With Sweep of Trojans

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lake Erie College women's volleyball team returned to the court on Saturday (Oct. 21) afternoon for a road Great Midwest matchup with the Trevecca Nazarene University Trojans.

The Storm defeated the Trojans 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-20) as the Storm improved to 19-7 overall and 9-3 in the G-MAC.

The teams went back and forth in the first set as the teams tied four times early. With the score tied 7-7, Lake Erie used a 9-0 run with two service aces by Alexis Thomas (Cincinnati, Ohio / Fairfield). Lexi Lombardo (Olmsted Falls, Ohio / Olmsted Falls) had a kill that pushed the Storm lead to ten. Brooke Peiffer (Lansing, Mich. / Holt) capped the first set with a kill that ended the set in favor of the Storm 25-15.

Lake Erie had a 4-1 lead in the second set before Trevecca trimmed the lead to one at 10-9. Bethany Fisher (Orrville, Ohio / Dalton) and Courtney Rosebrook (Deshler, Ohio / Patrick Henry) combined on a block that forced a Trojans timeout, with the Storm leading 12-9. With the Storm leading by one, the Storm used four straight points to take a 17-12 lead. The Storm pushed the advantage to six three times before going on to win the second set 25-20.

The Storm shot out of the gate in the third set with a 6-1 lead. Shannon Holsinger (Roanoke, Va. / Cave Spring) forced a Trevecca timeout with a kill as the Storm led 10-5. The Storm expanded the lead to seven late in the set as Trevecca took their second timeout. Lake Erie led by as many as eight before winning the set and the match 25-20.

Peiffer led the Storm with 11 kills along with eight digs. Lombardo had kills on nine plays. Fisher had seven kills for the Storm. Thomas had two service aces and 20 assists along with a team-high 15 digs. Hallie Zumack (Independence, Ohio / Independence) had 12 assists and ten digs on defense. Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich. / Saline) had 11 digs for the Storm on defense.

The Storm will travel to Davis & Elkins on Friday (Oct. 27) for a Great Midwest matchup.
