HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) announced the All-Conference award winners as a part of the 2017 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament banquet, held at Hillsdale College on Wednesday (Nov. 15).
Five Storm volleyball players earned All-Conference honors from the conference. Bethany Fisher (Orrville, Ohio / Dalton) was named to the First Team while Brooke Peiffer (Lansing, Mich. / Holt), Lexi Lombardo (Olmsted Falls, Ohio / Olmsted Falls), Alexis Thomas (Cincinnati, Ohio / Fairfield) and Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich. / Saline) all earned Second Team honors.
Fisher finished the 2017 regular season with a team and conference high 429 kills in 113 sets. Fisher has an average of 3.8 kills per set, good for the third best in the G-MAC. At Ohio Valley, Fisher surpassed the 1,000 kill mark for her career. The senior was third on the team in total blocks with 61 as she had ten solo blocks and 51 block assists. During the Midwest Region Crossover against Indianapolis, Fisher set a season-high with 23 kills. In the Storm's first two tournaments this season, she was named to the All-Tournament Team at Ashland and California (Pa.). Fisher was named G-MAC East Division Player of the Week twice throughout the season.
Peiffer completed her sophomore campaign with the Storm with the second most kills on the team. She had 348 kills in 113 sets, best for fifth in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Brooke had an average of 3.08 kills per set, the seventh best in the conference. Peiffer had 25 service aces, the third highest total of the Storm's individuals. On the defensive end, Peiffer had 312 digs for a 2.76 digs per set average. A two-time G-MAC East Player of the Week, she set a season-high with 18 kills against Flagler College and 18 digs against Indianapolis.
Lombardo ended the regular season with 229 kills in 113 sets as a sophomore. The 229 kills were third best on the team and Lombardo ranked fifth in the conference with a .302 killing percentage. Lexi led the team with 94 total blocks, 15 solo blocks (team-high) and 79 block assists. Lombardo reached a season-high 14 kills against Fairmont State at the Cal Vulcan Invite and had nine block assists against Drury at the Midwest Region Crossover.
Thomas compiled 697 assists in 116 sets for the Storm, for an average of 6.01 assists per set. Thomas finished the regular season ninth in average for assists per set. The junior setter was second on the Storm with 26 service aces and 330 digs on defense. Alexis set a season-high with 31 assists against Davis & Elkins and Ashland. Thomas reached a season-best 22 digs on defense against Drury and #21 Wheeling Jesuit.
Fletcher, a senior libero, ended her Lake Erie career with 569 digs this season over 116 sets. Sidney's 569 digs leads the Great Midwest Athletic Conference overall and her 4.91 digs per set is fourth best in the G-MAC. She also led the G-MAC and the Storm with 48 service aces. Fletcher earned G-MAC East Division Player of the Week once this season and finished her career as the program leader for career digs. She had a season-high 33 digs in the Storm's win over #25 Findlay earlier this year. This is Fletcher's second all-conference honor as she was named All-GLIAC Honorable Mention last season.
The Storm begins the 2017 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament with a quarterfinal match against Kentucky Wesleyan at 2:30 PM on Thursday (Nov. 16).
