(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – The Lake Erie volleyball team has released its 2019 schedule and will see the Storm begin competition in just under 50 days from now. With the G-MAC divisional system now gone, the schedule will vary slightly with each team playing all conference teams just once.
That leaves opportunity to play more regional opponents, and the Green and White will take on a strong contingent of them in the early part of the season. The Storm opens up the slate with tournaments at Clarion and Cal (Pa.) where they will get a good look at teams from the GLIAC, Mountain East, and PSAC.
"As usual we start off with a strong schedule early in the season competing in a couple of tough PSAC tournaments. After a couple of non-conference matches, we begin our G-MAC schedule," said Head Coach Kyle Peck entering his second season with the team. "It's different this year losing one team. We now only play each team once, and there are no East/West divisions. We have to show up each and every game, because there's no room for error this year."
The hosting Eagles of Clarion will give Lake Erie its first match on Thursday, Sept. 5, before matches with Saginaw Valley, Pitt-Johnstown, and Davenport follow the rest of the weekend. The following week at Cal sees Lake Erie take on West Liberty, Indiana (Pa.), former conference foe Davis & Elkins, and the host Vulcans.
The Storm will see three teams that made the NCAA tournament last season early this year. In addition to Clarion and Cal, Lake Erie also travels to Seton Hill, a regional finalist, for a non-conference clash.
The G-MAC opener will take place on Friday, Sept. 27, when Tiffin rolls into town for a rematch of last year's tournament quarterfinal contest. Cedarville and Frostburg State will complete the three-match home weekend.
Other home conference contests will take place against Trevecca Nazarene, Kentucky Wesleyan, Hillsdale, and Findlay. The Oilers will serve as the visitors for Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 16.
